After Heath Ledger's toxicology report was delayed for half a day, the results are finally out: he died from an accidental overdose of a mix of prescription drugs.
Looks to me like he was taking at least 2 too many kinds of pills. Why do you need to take TWO kinds of anti-anxiety AND TWO kinds of sleep aids all at the same time? Isn't one of each more than sufficient? I wonder if this is the reason for the accidental overdose? I wouldn't be surprised…
Well, that's essentially what they're saying — too many pills at once.Unless his doctor was incredibly negligent, I suspect he was self-medicating — perhaps combining old prescriptions with new ones in a misguided effort to reduce his symptoms. There are times when I've used up old medications long (months/years) after they had been prescribed to me just because it's easier than going back to the doctors and getting a new batch. But I've never combined prescribed medications in that way.
The elephant in the room that no one has discussed is "addiction". It is evident that there was a problem. More people die today from "prescription drug" overdose than form Heroin overdoses. There is no stigma with the misuse of prescription drugs, so many who have the resources use them, abuse them, and die by them.Drug counselor Louise
